A message from Mrs Woodfin
Choosing a secondary school is a big step, and we’re so proud that our families feel confident in The Bulmershe School.
We recently asked our year 11 families what they thought, and a fantastic 92% said they would recommend us! This feedback means the world to us and shows that our caring community and strong academics are making a real difference.
One parent shared how impressed they were with our “excellent pastoral care,” which they’d heard about before joining and praised even more after years of experiencing it firsthand. We also heard from many parents about how much they appreciated the support our staff provided during the GCSEs, with one saying, “The pre-exam interventions were really appreciated. Staff were generous with their time and offered lots of support.”
At Bulmershe, we believe in helping students not just succeed in exams but also build the confidence and resilience they need for life.

We hope to see some of you at our upcoming open events, where you can explore the school and get a good feel for it yourselves.

Bulmershe Open Evening
Thursday 25th September from 5:30pm – 7:30pm
Our Open Evening is a fantastic chance to experience our school first-hand. You can hear from our Headteacher, take a tour led by our student guides and see all our departments in action. Our students will be ready to share their honest experiences and answer your questions. There’s no need to book – just come to Reception, located behind Bulmershe Leisure Centre.
If you can’t make the evening, we’ll also be running Open Morning tours on 30th September, 2nd, 7th and 9th October 2025 from 9am – 10am. You’ll get a guided tour and a Q&A session with our Headteacher.
We can’t wait to show you how we help every student find their path and reach their full potential.

Academic Excellence
We’re celebrating some of the best exam results in our school’s history, proving that Bulmershe offers a combination of academic excellence and nurturing care.
Our students’ hard work paid off, with nearly a third of all GCSE grades being the top 9-7 marks, with 75% achieving 9-4, and over a third of A-Level grades at A*-A. We’re especially proud that our students achieved half a grade better across all their subjects compared to the national average, a clear sign that our dedicated staff help every student reach their full potential.
While these results are fantastic, we’re just as proud of the individual journeys. From students heading to top universities like Oxford and Cambridge, to those starting prestigious apprenticeships with companies like Deloitte, our young people are well-prepared for whatever their future holds.

Transition at The Bulmershe School
We know that moving to secondary school can be a big step, so we run a full transition programme to help children feel supported and excited about the move.
Once you are offered a place at Bulmershe, we welcome our incoming Year 7s with a range of events – including primary school visits and an interactive parents’ evening. We also offer meet-and-greet sessions for students with SEND and a series of Taster Days in June where new starters can try real lessons, meet staff and explore the site.
In July, we also open our doors to local Year 5 pupils, offering them a chance to visit the school and take part in fun lessons to help get a flavour of what Secondary School is like before they apply in Year 6.
Bushcraft Adventure
Bulmershe believes in a balanced education, where academic learning is supported by real-world experiences and personal development. The Bushcraft residential is just one of the many extra-curricular and enrichment activities we offer to help students step out of their comfort zone and grow in confidence.
This amazing experience is a highlight of the year for our Year 7s, designed to help build life skills, independence and incredible memories. Students spend four days and three nights in the woods, taking part in hands-on activities like shelter building, fire lighting, and campfire cooking (including roasting their own food!). They can also try archery, learn survival skills, have fun with night-time games and a Camp’s Got Talent show.

Sport at Bulmershe
We see sport as a powerful way to develop confidence, teamwork and resilience in our students. Every term, our sports programme is filled with free after-school clubs available in football, netball, gymnastics, swimming and more.
Last term 70 of our students proudly represented the school at the District Athletics tournament – an incredible opportunity to show both skill and determination. We also played a key role in Woodley Sports Week, supporting 2,660 children from local primary schools across a series of sporting events including swimming galas and cricket festivals. Our student Sports Leaders helped organise and run activities, receiving glowing feedback for their maturity and helpfulness.
Sport at Bulmershe is open to all and closely linked to our values of responsibility, resilience, respect and safety. We believe in offering every young person the chance to succeed, whether on the field, in leadership or in the classroom.
